When you hear the term renovation, you immediately think of the interior of a house, apartment or condo. But what about the outside? Sometimes you need to take care of it and give it a second wind. This was the project proposed to us by these Laval homeowners.
The owners wanted to completely redo the faded exterior of their bungalow, which hadn’t been changed since it was built. There are many steps involved in this large-scale project, but the first is the choice of new siding. The customers opted for durable gray brick siding that would give their home a more modern look.
We therefore completely removed not only the original bricks, but also the columns supporting the front roof. In addition, we removed all the original windows and installed new energy-efficient windows (including a bay window on the first floor) with black surrounds to match the new cladding. New wooden columns with square bases painted brown were added, themselves supported by custom-cut brick bases. The final result appears much more polished and elegant, and exceeds all customer expectations.
They also benefited from the opportunity to build an outdoor terrace in the backyard. In collaboration with the customer, we opted for a terrace set against the house. We set up a foundation with concrete piers, attached the rim joist to the house, installed the newel posts and beams, then installed the rim joists and intermediate joists.
We then added treated wood skirts all around the terrace and a straight four-step staircase to access the courtyard. The customer chose composite flooring, which is durable and easy to treat. We added black forged steel railings to properly encircle the outdoor terrace. As a result, our customer can benefit from a warm and practical space during the summer months.
