Project description

This Dollard-des-Ormeaux owner wanted to transform the two exterior terraces of his duplex to give it a warm and rural style, even in the middle of the city. Our team immediately set to work to develop a two-step construction project: demolition of the old galleries and staircase and construction of two new terraces with wooden base and wooden floor.

Before starting the project, we made sure we obtained all the necessary permits for the demolition and construction of the terraces from the municipalities in order to comply with standards and regulations. The first step was to demolish the two galleries and the staircase at the back of the duplex, as these facilities were not very safe. Subsequently, we disposed of all materials in a responsible and environmentally friendly manner.

For the first terrace, our team first dug a foundation of pillars without footings, installed the perimeter joists on the house, the posts and beams, the edge joists and intermediate joists, the treated wood base, the treated wood floor and the wooden and steel railings. We added wooden beams that would partly support the 2nd floor gallery. We built a pergola roof over the first terrace. At the owner’s request, we built spaces for plants and flowers and a wooden staircase for easier access to the backyard. For the 2nd floor gallery, we installed the edge joist in the house structure, installed the wooden base, wooden floor and wooden and steel railings.
