Project description

As part of this project, our Rosemont client wanted to transform the two exterior galleries of his duplex for safety and aesthetics reasons. After receiving this project, our team immediately set to work to design a two-step construction project: demolition of the old galleries and construction of two new terraces with wooden bases and composite panel floors.

Before starting the construction of the terrace, we were responsible for obtaining all necessary permits for the demolition and construction of the terraces from the municipalities in order to comply with standards and regulations. The first step was to demolish the two galleries behind the duplex, which had become unsafe. We disposed of all materials in a responsible and environmentally friendly manner.

For the first terrace, we dug a foundation of pillars without footings, installed the edge joists on the house, the posts and beams, the edge joists and intermediate joists, the treated wood base, the composite panel floor and the wooden and steel railings. We added wooden beams that would partly support the 2nd floor terrace. We also added a new patio door for the first terrace. We completed the whole with recessed luminaires in the roof.

For the 2nd floor terrace (which also serves as the roof for the first terrace), we installed the perimeter joist in the house structure, installed the wooden base, composite panel floor and wooden and steel railings. We also added small steel beams to support the plastic roof above the terrace.
